Do you ever dream of getting back to basics and making or adapting some of your clothes, but don't have the equipment or skills to make that possible? Or perhaps you remember your mum or granny making you clothes and wish you could carry on that tradition.

Our fun and easy to make scarf kit is a great way of making your own accessories and adding individuality to your wardrobe. Design your own bespoke silk scarf, you don't even need to be particularly artistic to achieve wonderful results! 

This lovely kit is the perfect project to let your creative side flow. We include everything you will need to make your own colourful scarf and to dip your toe into silk painting.

Choose 2 ink colours from our selection of 8 and practice on the strip of silk provided before embarking on your scarf project. You can also pick additional colours from the drop down list. They can be mixed to create a wider range of colours.

Setasilk ink is a heat fixable colour for silk. It is made from finely dispersed pigments and resins that ensure colours are vivid, intense and very bright. They mix harmoniously to offer a palette of rich and refined shades suitable for all traditional silk painting techniques. To ensure designs are washable they should be heat fixed with an iron on the reverse side. We give you 45ml bottles, so there is more than enough ink to complete your design.

Our kit contains quality white silk scarves, supplied plain for your decoration. They are sheer 5mm Pongee silk. The mm refers to a Japanese unit of measure the 'momme'. 1 momme = approximately 3.75g per square metre of silk fabric. There are two sizes: 150cm x 40cm and 90cm x 90cm, which you can select when buying.

Make a simple but colourful pattern by applying drops of colour straight on to the silk or use gutta to trace a shape or pattern and then when you apply ink, it will stop it spreading, the guide will explain in detail how to do this. Or you can get a great look from just painting the ink randomly all over the silk. Add a pattern with gutta, let it dry and and dye the scarf one colour, your design will show through the colour. You can also tie die your scarf too.

What can I do with the kit once I've made my scarves?

You can wear your scarves and receive lots of compliments! You can give your scarves away as presents. You will more than likely have ink and gutta left which you could use on more silk projects. The paint brushes can be used in other crafts. The embroidery hoops can be used in other silk projects or for in an embroidery kit or cross stitch kit. So hang on to them as they may be handy.
